Commissioner Henderson was the chief of the Metropolis Police Department.
When a young female officer was attacked on Old Ocean Road, the commissioner oversaw the investigation. He gave a quick interview with Clark Kent, and was less than appreciative of the jokes of his young partner Jimmy.
The commissioner later attended the funeral of Dan Turpin.
William Henderson first appeared in the 1940s Superman radio plays, and later in the 1950s television series Adventures of Superman. He was not incorporated in the comics until the 1970s. Henderson served as Superman's police contact, though never to the degree James Gordon was for Batman. In the pilot of Lois & Clark, Mel Winkler played Henderson, and he reprised his role for Superman: The Animated Series.
