"I made an arrangement with Royal Flush Gang headmaster. He seemed happy enough with it..."
— The Joker

John Lynch was one of the men responsible for the creation of the first incarnation of the Royal Flush Gang.

History[]

John Lynch was a major figure in Section 12, where the metahumans who would later become the Royal Flush Gang were interned and trained. He oversaw the kids' development until The Joker paid the compound a visit, spraying Lynch with a cloud of gas from his carnation. Lynch was incapacitated with an unnatural grin frozen on his face while Joker, doing the same to several guards, released his students.

Background information[]

The depicted subject bears the likeness of John Lynch from the DC Comics; however, the DCAU character was never named on-screen, or otherwise. The title of this article is conjecture based on the character's likeness.

While he is only referred to as the Gang's "headmaster" by the Joker, Bruce Timm has stated that the character is a cross between the DC Comics character John Lynch and the Marvel Comics character Professor Xavier.[1]

In the comics, both characters run organizations devoted to training metahumans, but their approaches are decidedly different: Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, under the guise of an ordinary boarding school, would invite confirmed mutants and help prepare them for the outside world, while Internal Operations would perform dangerous experiments on unwitting test subjects, although Lynch was opposed to this practice. The group seen in Justice League falls in between the two in its methods, forcibly kidnapping established metahumans for its own purposes.

The character, for his part, seems to run closer to the John Lynch persona based on his brief appearance (being, among other things, a DC character), albeit inheriting Professor Xavier's bald head. His overall sinister appearance attests to the nature of the facility, as it is described by the Joker.
