Spy Smasher was an Allied agent during World War II.

History[]

Spy Smasher stopped the human testing phase of the Captain Nazi Project in 1944 and captured a sample of the Captain Nazi serum. He escaped the ruined castle by diving in the sea; his trusted Gyrosub allowed him his escape to the US.

Background information[]

Alan Armstrong, the Spy Smasher, was created by C.C. Beck and Bill Parker for Fawcett Comics, and debuted in February 1940 in Whiz Comics #2. He is one of the only two characters in the DCAU who came from DC's erstwhile rival, the other being Fawcett's flagship hero Captain Marvel.

Spy Smasher was a secret agent who fought the Nazis during World War II. After the war, the comic and character were renamed Crime Smasher, and he fought urban crime much like Batman, Blue Beetle, Crimson Avenger and a plethora of other masked men. After DC Comics acquired Fawcett's characters in 1972, Spy Smasher made sparse appearances—he was used in Power of Shazam!. In 2007, a new Spy Smasher, Katarina Armstrong, appeared in the pages of Birds of Prey, written by Gail Simone.
